Sam Walsh takes a look at the big picture
Rio Tinto is a giant in Australia’s gigantic resources sector and no one is better qualified to speak on the impact of mining investment on Australia’s population growth than the chief executive of the company’s Iron Ore group (and CEO, Rio Tinto Australia), Sam Walsh.
Resources are Australia’s largest single export sector, accounting for roughly half of the total goods and services exported. With billions in the investment pipeline for years to come and seemingly insatiable demand from the burgeoning Chinese and Indian economies, things can only get bigger.
Just how big they’re going to get is the subject of Sam’s address to the 2012 National Congress. It promises to be a very big picture view of an industry that will be shaping Australia’s economic and social future for decades to come.
