Dean Landy

Architect & Entrepreneur

Often described as a social entrepreneur and community advocate, Dean is an architect, philanthropist, author and speaker. Dean leads a purpose driven career that has a social impact within a commercial context.

With 19 years’ experience as an architect and Partner at Melbourne based architectural practice, ClarkeHopkinsClarke, his main area of expertise is in the feasibility, masterplanning, design and delivery of large scale retail, town centre and mixed-use development, with a core expertise around community infrastructure. With a broad base of experience that encompasses multi-residential developments, community and leisure centres, community health facilities, commercial facilities, primary and secondary schools, and churches, Dean is well regarded for his strong capability in masterplanning and design. A holistic understanding of the core elements of community infrastructure, combined with a belief that commercial success and community imperatives are not necessarily mutually exclusive, enables Dean to unlock the maximum potential from each project.

In 2009 Dean was the recipient of the Architectural Services Award for excellence in client service, and for the past two years has been an examiner on the Victorian Architects’ Registration Board.

Following two years of extensive research and investigation, last year Dean released his first publication titled ‘Creating Vibrant Communities’, which provides practical tools to help create better places for people.

Dean’s community focus extends beyond the boundaries of local architectural projects. In 2007 he founded ‘One Heart Kenya’, a not for profit organisation that provides homes for orphaned and abandoned children and aims to break the cycle of poverty and aid dependency. Dean has applied his expertise in the development of a largely self-sufficient series of homes in Eldoret, Kenya and is continuing to work on a variety of new initiatives including a school and a community skills training centre.
