Richard is Professor of Housing, Society and Space in the Department of Geography and Planning, and at the Centre for Urban Studies at the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. He is also an Honorary Professor at the University of Birmingham in the UK. He is best known for his work on the interactions between housing and social, economic and urban transformations in Europe and Pacific Asia. Among other functions, he is the Editor of the International Journal of Housing Policy, Co-editor of The Contemporary City book series (with Palgrave) and is a Working Group Coordinator for the European Network for Housing Research. Richard has held Japan Foundation as well as Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Fellowships at Kobe University in Japan (2002-2006). He has also been a Visiting Professor at Kyung Hee University in Seoul, South Korea (2010-2012) and National University Singapore (2015).
